Megabass LATES Feeding Woofer is a floating subsurface minnow-style lure made for fishing the very upper water layer. It works just below the surface and imitates baitfish moving above predators watching from below.
Megabass describes this model as a stick roller bait. Its key feature is a very strong rolling action: on a slow to medium retrieve, the lure rolls hard from side to side, flashes and resembles a school of baitfish moving in the upper layer.
When wind or small waves disturb the surface, the flash from LATES Feeding Woofer becomes even more visible from below. This is useful when predators hold slightly lower but follow baitfish moving above them and can rise to strike.
The lure is easy to work: in most cases, a slow to medium steady retrieve is enough. Slowing the retrieve briefly changes the lure's running height, while a slower retrieve in the same layer lets it keep rolling and hover in the upper water range.
With twitches or short rod pulls, LATES Feeding Woofer slides more sharply to the side and flutters like a panicking baitfish. This presentation helps when a predator follows the lure but needs an extra trigger to strike.
In Lithuanian waters and similar conditions, this model is useful for pike, larger perch and other predators feeding close to the surface. On a slow retrieve over weed tops, the lure pushes a visible surface wake, which can be especially attractive in calm conditions.
The louder rattle helps the lure stand out when the water is not completely calm or when predator attention has to be drawn from a greater distance. In clear and very calm water, a slower, quieter retrieve with longer pauses can be the better choice.
